Who This Workshop Is For
This session suits developers who have sent SOL but feel uncertain when SPL token documentation mentions mint accounts, token accounts, or program-derived addresses. It also suits community organisers who need to understand token mechanics before discussing a launch with their team — without committing to a full developer course.
You should arrive comfortable using a browser wallet on devnet. We do not assume prior Rust or Anchor experience, though familiarity with basic public-key cryptography helps.
What You Will Leave Knowing
By the end of the four hours you will be able to identify a mint account versus a token account on an explorer, explain why a recipient needs an associated token account before receiving a specific SPL token, and describe the rent-exempt minimum balance that keeps a token account alive on chain.
We walk through a complete transfer scenario: checking whether the recipient's associated token account exists, creating it if needed, and confirming the post-transfer balances. Each step is drawn on a whiteboard before we mirror it in a wallet interface so you can connect the diagram to what you see on screen.
Session Structure
The first hour covers SPL token program basics — what a mint account stores, how decimals affect displayed amounts, and the difference between mint authority and freeze authority. The second hour focuses on token accounts: ownership, delegated amounts, and close authority.
After a short break, we spend ninety minutes on associated token accounts — how the address is derived, when you must create one manually, and common "account not found" errors during transfers. The final thirty minutes is open Q&A where you can bring failing transactions or screenshots from your own experiments.
Preparation
Create a devnet wallet before arrival and request devnet SOL from a faucet. Bring a laptop with your preferred browser wallet installed. If you have a specific SPL token you are researching, note its mint address so we can reference it during the session.
Location and Delivery
The workshop runs at our Wales Farm Road learning space in Acton, West London. An online attendance option is available on selected dates — you receive the same printed materials as a PDF beforehand.
